In court docs obtained by TMZ, Dell accuses Sonya of carrying on an extramarital affair for years with Steven Johnson, who was a Virginia Tech athlete in the mid-’80s at the same time as the splitting couple.

In the divorce docs, Dell claims Sonya has been living with Johnson in Tennessee. Sonya responded that she has been living alone because Dell has not allowed her to live at home. Sonya admits she is currently in a dating relationship but is adamant that the relationship began after the couple legally separated in March 2020. Sonya also accuses Dell, who had a 16-year career that ended in 2002, of frequent infidelity throughout their marriage.
Dell and Sonya are also well known by NBA fans as the parents of Warriors star Steph Curry and 76ers sharpshooter Seth Curry.
The couple met at Virginia Tech, where Dell was making his name on the basketball court and Sonya on the volleyball court. That’s while Johnson was catching passes for the Hokies, racking up a total of 1,058 yards and eight touchdowns in three seasons, still ranking third in school history among tight ends in both categories.
Johnson graduated in 1988, two years after Dell. The Patriots drafted Johnson in the sixth round of the 1988 NFL Draft and he played one season in the league.
Johnson is currently president of Johnson Commercial Development, one of the largest commercial developers in the southeastern United States. According to the Courier Herald, he is also a big Virginia Tech donor — enough so that one of the football practice fields on campus bears his name.
Sonya filed the official divorce papers on June 14.
