Since 2017, following his last professional fight, Mayweather has competed in exhibition bouts. Despite that “TBE” thinks it’s time to concentrate more on his business ventures rather than boxing all his life.
Floyd Mayweather reveals his boxing career is over
In an interview with the Telegraph, Mayweather claimed that his ‘real’ boxing career was now over. Moreover, he added that he would now like to concentrate on his business ventures to add on to his already generational wealth. He stated that this was more important to him than boxing at this time in his life.
“My real boxing career is over. I’m retired but I’m making smart investments, connecting with the right people and building generational wealth. That’s what’s important to me, and that’s what I want to continue to do,” he said.
Mayweather is one of the select few boxers who has managed to replicate his in-ring success outside the sport as well. However, it looks like he is at a stage in his life where money matters the most to him, even more than boxing itself.
Mayweather reveals his plans to fight in the UK
In the interview, ‘Money’ also revealed that he would be fitting in the UK in 2023. Despite claiming that his boxing career was over, he will still compete in an exhibition bout. He added that the bout might be scheduled for February and wanted this exhibition as he never competed in the United Kindom in his illustrious career.
“A bout is planned in the UK for 2023. In February we’re looking forward to coming here and putting on an exhibition for the fans in the UK, because I’ve never had a chance to come over here and fight when I was actively boxing as a professional,” he said.
Mayweather has had a complicated schedule since retiring professionally in 2017. He has competed in numerous exhibition bouts and still plans to do so even at the age of 45 despite claiming his career was over
